Purple King Palm

Scientific Name: Archontophoenix purpurea

AKA: Mount Lewis King, Purple Piccabean Palm, and Purple Palm

Identification: The purple king has a single smooth gray trunk, ringed with the scars of shed fronds. It takes several years for the palm to develop a purple crown shaft. The leaves are stiff feather-like fronds that range from dark green to light green on the top and shiny silver on the bottom. They are about 7-12ft long. The average height of this palm is 15 feet.

Growing: Easy maintenance after established, a fairly fast growing palm. Partial shade to full sun. Requires moderate watering, as it grows best in moist, well drained soil.
